For parents of teenagers

Worry, or laziness?

Eleven statements about what you have noticed in your teenager over the past month. You, the parent, fill it in.

This short questionnaire is for parents. It helps you consider whether a teenager who avoids school, responsibilities or people may be driven more by worry and tension than by reluctance or laziness. It is for orientation only. It does not assess your child and does not replace an assessment by a child psychologist or child psychiatrist.

Fill it in on your own, without your child. What matters here is what you see.

For each statement, choose how often you have seen it in your child over the past month. Answer based on what you observe, not on what you think is behind it. Your result is calculated only in your browser.

Your answers are scored only in your browser. Nothing is sent or stored.

What your result means, and what it does not

It is easy to read a teenager's avoidance of school and responsibilities as laziness. Sometimes, though, worry sits behind it: fear of failing, of being tested, of being laughed at, of not coping. This questionnaire helps you look at your child's behaviour through that lens as well.

The result does not tell you what is happening with your child. It is only a summary of what you have noticed over the past month. If the situation worries you, it makes sense to consult someone who works directly with adolescents.

I work with adults, so consultations are for you, the parent. You can read more about how they work on Consultations for parents of teenagers. When it is time to seek help and where to turn is covered on When to seek help.

Questions and answers

Does this questionnaire assess my child?

No. It only describes what you, as a parent, observe. It cannot tell you for certain what your child is going through, and it does not replace an assessment by a child psychologist or child psychiatrist.

Do you store my answers?

No. The result is calculated in your browser. Your answers are never sent anywhere and disappear when you close the page.

Can I come to a consultation without my child?

Yes, that is how I work. Consultations are for the adult parent. I do not work with teenagers directly, but we can think through where to turn if your child needs care of their own.
