About me
Roman Kamenišťák
I am a psychologist, psychotherapist in training (Gestalt, Institut Dialog), working under supervision. I have worked with clients since 2009.
How I work
I believe each of us carries the potential to heal and grow. For me, the core of therapy is a safe relationship built on trust.
Every person who comes to me is different, and I adapt the therapy to what you need rather than to a fixed programme. I don't judge or grade what you bring.
My approach is Gestalt therapy, which belongs to the humanistic tradition in psychotherapy. I offer individual sessions for adults, in person in Prague 1 or online if you can't come in person.
Training and supervision
I am in comprehensive psychotherapy training in Gestalt therapy at Institut Dialog. I am a candidate member of the Czech Association for Psychotherapy (ČAP). Under the association's membership rules, candidate membership is open to people who have completed at least half of the training hours of a comprehensive psychotherapy training.
I take part in supervision regularly, going through my work with an experienced colleague.
Education
I studied psychology at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno, where I completed a master's degree. My master's thesis looked at the relationship between self-esteem and risky behaviour in early adolescence.
In 2005–2006 I studied psychology at Aarhus University in Denmark on an Erasmus exchange. In 2011 I completed the accredited qualification course Psychologist in Healthcare (Psycholog ve zdravotnictví).

Questions and answers
What does psychotherapist in training mean?
It means I am still completing a comprehensive psychotherapy training in Gestalt therapy at Institut Dialog. The Czech Association for Psychotherapy accepts candidate members once they have completed at least half of the hours of such a training. I also work under regular supervision.
Are you a doctor or a psychiatrist?
No. I am a psychologist. I don't prescribe medication or make medical diagnoses, and questions about medication belong with your doctor or a psychiatrist.
Which languages do you work in?
Czech, Slovak and English. Sessions in English run the same way and with the same approach as sessions in Czech or Slovak.
